could also be the reason why some reported material can go transparent on the flick of a switch.

Basically you have resonance pulsed micro-magnetic coils to cool the material rapidly.  Photons pass through without being repulsed and the material is see-through.  Some photons are absorbed, but since most of the structural lattice is space,  light will pass through only slightly dimmed.
