Human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV 8) is the direct infectious cause of Kaposi sarcoma,
HHV 8 also cause primary effusion lymphoma, multicentric Castleman disease, and inflammatory cytokine syndromes.
Under normal circumstances, this virus is kept in check by a strong immune system. However, mercury poisoning, radiation exposure, poisons in general, or other infectious diseases such as SARS, HIV, etc can bring the immune system down and allow HHV 8 to wreck havoc.
